They say necessity is the mother of invention and by the looks of it, the founder of Spanx underwear, Sara Blakely must have found it necessary to shape the figures of many women as nothing on the market was viable.
The history of shapewear garments for women is a long one. We have all seen historical movies in which women wrapped themselves in metal corsets to thrust their breasts high while leaving the waist narrow. It didn't look too comfortable and throughout the ages, although the material of shapewear has become more lax, women still weren't too keen on binding themselves for the sake of a slim silhouette.
